In this hectic and fast-paced world we live in, each of us crave a moment to express ourselves and our inner creativity. And, if we are lucky, we find our way to enjoyment.
Raku Pottery is dynamic and messy. Like each of us, Raku pottery is imperfect and unpredictable; but when given attention and nurture, it turns into something beautiful.
Raku Pottery combines the intent of the potter, with the unpredictability of the firing technique. The immediacy of the firing is exciting, and the results highlight the path of the flame.
The Raku firing process is what sets this pottery experience apart from all others. The pottery is removed when it is red hot and placed in a combustible material; the result… a mesmerizing, intense flame show complete with smoke.
Indian River Clay members, students and community have been inquiring about exploring Raku pottery through classes and on their own. We would love to be able to offer special classes with guest artists and bring Raku pottery to you. To make this possible, we will need to purchase a Raku kiln.
We invite you to support our efforts to raise $5,000 to purchase a large Raku kiln, begin hosting regular Raku pottery classes while expanding our ability to continue enhancing the many equipment needs that benefit all of us. In addition, anyone making a one-time gift of $500 or more will be invited to participate in the initial Raku firing and provided with an exclusive piece of Raku pottery. It will be an evening to remember!
