Master Workshop - Jesus Minguez 4/18/2020
This introductory workshop is designed to give participants both a fundamental understanding of how ceramic glazes are created and a hands-on experience with the most commonly used raw materials and additives involved in its production. Jesus will cover the basics of glaze formulation, surface textures and color formation. To that end, participants will make their own personal glaze test sieves (think “strainer” – parts will be provided for you) with which to experiment. Each participant will make a line blend or triaxial blend (method for testing two or three combinations of glaze materials) to produce test tiles. The day’s goal is for each participant to create a uniquely personal glaze formula based on the characteristics they desire in a glaze. In addition to fundamentals of glaze formulation, we will cover safety issues, standard operating procedures, and "tips and tricks" to help potters avoid cross-contamination. The workshop is open to adult students of levels.
