Let's Learn Luster! w/ Kate Donovan | Saturday, November 23 | 10am-1pm
LET'S LEARN LUSTER!
Students will learn how to prep, apply, and fire precious metal overglaze to the external of their glazed ceramic pieces. As luster takes on the quality of the glaze it is placed over, glossy glazes work best for a high shine. Luster placed over matte glaze will have a matte finish. Materials fee includes one 2 gram bottle of Mayco Gold luster in either BRIGHT or WHITE Gold, and one bottle of brush cleaning essence. Please indicate your luster choice selection in the notes section when making your payment.
Participants must register and pay by October 20 for the November 16 class.
All class sales are final- no refunds.
*It is recommended that students bring a few small items to luster and when we determine how much will realistically fit in the kiln to provide a good firing, apply luster to only those objects.
Instructor: Kate Donovan
Skill level: Intermediate
Class Cost: $45
Pre Paid Material Fee: $47

From the Mayco website: CHARACTERISTICS: OG 801 Bright Gold and OG802 White Gold have all the clean color, brilliance and high durability of 22-karat gold. Mirror-bright effects result when the Golds are applied over glossy glazes; satin-smooth effects from application over satin-finish glazes; and rich matte effects from application over matte-finish glazes.
Date: Saturday, November 23
Time: 10am– 1pm
Materials to Bring: 2 small GLAZED items to be decorated with luster*, NEW small, soft brush to be used specifically for luster application, heavy duty mask or respirator for fumes during application, CLEAN non porous palette (a glazed tile works great), small glass jar with lid for essence
Bring a few small items, no larger than 4 inches in all directions and we will see how many pieces will reasonably fit in the kiln. Small cups and bud vases are perfect for this project.
